Intersectional Connections

Anti-Palestinian Racism works in tandem with other systems of oppression. In order to address anti-Palestinian racism effectively and avoid causing additional harm, it’s important to understand its intersections.

What are some examples of this?

  • Anti-Palestinian racism intersects with anti-Black racism in many ways, including adultification, dehumanisation, segregation, tokenizing, etc.

  • Homophobia and pinkwashing intersect Palestinian and Queer liberation, many queer voices used cynically to silence Palestinian self advocacy;

  • With indigenous movements, there is shared work on the idea and processes of Land Back and decolonization, indigenous peoples’ right to exist and flourish on their land;

  • The use and even testing of weapons of war on civilians in gaza intersects with the very most evil parts of capitalism and the military industrial complex.

What are the impacts of this?

  • An intersectional framework will allow you to address both Anti-Palestinian Racism and antisemitism in tandem, as opposed to the racist framework that places Palestinian and Jewish humanity at odds;

  • Instead of listening to what Queer Palestinians actually say and think, Western voices feel comfortable silencing and speaking for them (link);

  • Intersectional framework will also help create shared meaning and language so that perspectives that feel oppositional can find their shared humanity and best interests.

What are some responses to this?

  • Examining how specific examples of anti-Palestinian racisms uphold other oppressions creates solidarity and clarity around the actual problem;

  • Collective liberation and justice is the goal and that means for everyone;

  • Allyship isn’t transactional, and we believe the sanctity and value of every single life should be protected;

  • Solidarity is interlocking, and our actions don’t exist in a vacuum, we need them to not reinforce other oppressions, and be focused on collective liberation.
