Accusing Palestinians of having inherently violent or even genocidal intentions when they advocate for Palestinian liberation, or even their humanity.
What are some examples of this?
- Palestinians would… eliminate/exterminate x" if they could;
- “‘From the river to the sea,’ ‘Free Palestine,’ etc. are a call for genocide”;
- “PaliN*zis” or other other derogatory slurs about the holocaust;
- Fabricated and outrageous stories spread without question.
What are the impacts of this?
- No effort to understand or contextualise Palestinian perspectives becomes allowed, it is called ‘justification’;
- Seeing Palestinian deaths as inevitable collateral damage, or their own fault;
- Dehumanisation, collective guilt and punishment becomes easier;
- Used to deflect and suppress outrage about Palestinian genocide by blurring power dynamic.
What are some responses to this?
- Palestinians do not want to dominate, subjugate, or oppress any other people;
- Freedom and justice for anyone will never come at the cost of subjugation or violence for others;
- Palestinians deserve equal rights on their ancestral lands;
- Palestinian slogans exist to give Palestinians hope and to create shared experiences-- they are not for others to define.
